Safety City's curriculum is designed to teach our young people (grades K-1) to recognize safety hazards found in everyday lif
e and to learn to make wise choices when they are in situations which have the potential to cause injury or harm.
Safety City’s instructors are specially trained experts from the Blue Valley community. Police officers, traffic enforcement agents, health care providers and school crossing guards also instruct the children at Safety City, reminding them to use their safety skills.
The program is held in an educational setting featuring a "child-size" town of miniature buildings, streets, crosswalks, functional traffic lights, sidewalks and a working railroad crossing. A state-of-the-art Smoke House allows firefighters to teach home fire safety, and to fill a room with simulated smoke, allowing children to practice escape plans and gather at a designated meeting location.
