Colleen Browne has been appointed as a new commissioner to the Blue Valley Recreation Commission by the Blue Valley School Board. She will start her four-year term at the August 18 meeting held at the Blue Valley Rec Activity Center.

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation month. The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has chosen “Celebrate, Advocate, Recreate!” as this year’s theme. In honor of the month, Governor Mark Parkinson has joined with the Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) in declaring July as Park and Recreation Month for the state of Kansas.

[Sports] Volleyball League Sees Rapid Growth

The Blue Valley Rec youth volleyball league started a decade ago with 200 girls playing on 20 teams. Last year's league saw 919 girls on 94 teams and looks to exceed 1,000 players with the addition of a league for boys and a third grade division for girls.

[Dance] Dance Troupes Perform Well at Regional Talent Show

Three dance troupes from Blue Valley Recreation were among the hundreds who took part in the regional Talent on Parade competition April 9-11 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. The troupes, comprised of girls selected from auditions, competed in three age categories. The girls will join other Blue Valley Rec dancers for the May Recitals this weekend.
