Kids dive into hands-on activities that spark creativity and curiosity. Then, they build new skills, make friends, and grow in confidence—all in a safe and supportive environment. With a wide variety of camps to choose from, there’s something for every interest and age group.

Current Summer Camps
At Blue Valley Rec, we offer summer camps in Overland Park that spark curiosity and creativity across a wide range of interests. Kids get to experience artistic expression by learning new guitar riffs or exploring other performing arts. Then, they can shift gears and challenge their minds with hands-on tech experiences like video game programming. No matter their passion, every camper will find something engaging, educational, and fun—all in one unforgettable summer experience.

Art
- Ages 5 to 12 years
Artistic expression
To begin with, spark your child’s imagination by enrolling them in an art camp led by talented local artists and studios. Then, watch their creativity blossom as they explore new techniques, experiment with different materials, and bring their ideas to life. Along the way, they’ll build confidence, express themselves freely, and develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts—all in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Theater
- Ages 5 to 12 years
Star Power
Every child steps into the spotlight with confidence. as they are given the opportunity to explore hands-on activities that teach acting basics, stage presence, and collaboration. Then, as the session progresses, they rehearse scenes, build characters, and prepare for a final performance. In the end, every participant receives an equal-size role and proudly takes part in a show—celebrating their growth, teamwork, and love for the stage.

STEAM
- Ages 6 to 11 years
Full Speed ahead
In these STEAM camps, kids begin their journey with hands-on activities that spark curiosity and excitement while collaborating with peers to tackle unique challenges, apply critical thinking, and explore real-world concepts through science, technology, engineering, art, and math. By the end of each session, campers build problem-solving skills, boost confidence, and discover just how fun learning can be.

- Grades Pre-K to 7
Hands-On Learning
Initially, spark your young scientist’s curiosity with a science camp that dives into exciting topics like dinosaurs, forensics, aviation, and more. Then, watch their excitement grow as they explore real-world concepts through hands-on experiments and interactive lessons. Along the way, they’ll build critical thinking skills, make new discoveries, and develop a deeper appreciation for how science shapes the world around them.

Robotics
- Ages 7 to 15 years
Gears, Gadgets, Great Ideas
First, we introduce kids to the exciting world of robotics through age-appropriate, hands-on camps. Then, as they build skills and confidence, campers progress through challenges tailored to their experience level. Along the way, they learn to design, build, and program robots while developing critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. By the end of camp, kids not only gain a deeper understanding of technology—they also have a blast doing it.

Coding
- Ages 6 to 17 years

Music
- Ages 6 to 17 years

Start your child’s musical journey with one of our exciting music camps, where they explore vocals, rock band, guitar riffs, and more! Campers delve into hands-on instruction led by professional music staff. Then, they build technique, confidence, and creativity through practice, collaboration, and performance. By the end of camp, participants not only expand their musical abilities—they also discover the joy of making music in a fun setting.

Chess
- Ages 5 to 12 years
Think critically, play tactically
Keep your camper’s brain sharp this summer with chess camp! Participants learn strategy, logic, and problem-solving through classic games and creative challenges. Then, they put their skills to the test in friendly competitions, collaborative play, and thought-provoking activities. Along the way, campers build confidence, patience, and critical thinking—all while having fun in a relaxed, social setting.

Horseback Riding
- Ages 6 to 14 years

At horseback riding camp, campers begin their adventure by learning how to safely groom and care for horses through hands-on experiences. Then, they build confidence as they spend time in the saddle, practicing basic riding skills with guidance from experienced instructors. Along the way, they also explore the barnyard and discover fun facts about other animals, creating a well-rounded and unforgettable camp experience.

Sports Camps
- Ages 4-14

Then, they build on those basics by developing proper mechanics, improving coordination, and practicing essential skills through drills and gameplay. As the camp progresses, participants gain confidence, strengthen teamwork, and experience the joy of learning through active play—all while having a great time on the field or court.
Important Information
To receive a full refund or transfer
- You must submit your request by the Friday prior to the camp’s start date.
- First, we’ll process your request promptly if it’s received on time.
- However, after that deadline, we cannot issue refunds or process transfers for any reason, including illness or scheduling conflicts.
Please plan ahead to ensure your camper doesn’t miss out—and that you don’t miss the refund window!
POLICY
Blue Valley Rec and its partners reserve the right to use all photographs and video footage of participants for promotional purposes. Specifically, this includes materials used in print, digital media, advertisements, and social media promotions. Moreover, drone footage is also included under this policy.
Waiver
In addition, by participating in our programs or events, individuals acknowledge and accept the potential use of their image for marketing purposes. As a result, these visuals help us showcase the energy and excitement of our leagues and activities across various platforms.

We want every camper to have a successful experience. However, we reserve the right to cancel any summer camp or class due to low enrollment.
- If this occurs, we will promptly notify participants and offer the option to transfer to another camp or receive a full refund.
- In the event of inclement weather or if the Blue Valley School District cancels school and/or after-hours activities, then all Blue Valley Rec programs scheduled at school locations will also be canceled.
- On the other hand, if your camp is held at the Activity Center (AC), please check the Inclement Weather page on our website for the latest updates.
For the best experience possible, please review the following notices:
- First, remember that participants are not required to attend every day; however, each weekly camp is based on a full-week commitment. We do not prorate fees for absences due to illness or vacation.
- Next, participants are welcome to bring nut-free lunches and/or snacks as needed. Please make sure all food and drink containers are clearly labeled with the participant’s name.
- Before heading to camp each day, check your child’s backpack to ensure it contains only items appropriate for that day’s activities.
- Additionally, students 12 and younger must be signed in and out of camp by an adult each day—no exceptions.
- Finally, we do not send reminders for camp start dates and times, so please mark your calendars accordingly.
Community-Supported Enrichment Programs
Several of our summer camp programs are offered in partnership with trusted community organizations. In these cases, our partners provide the curriculum and instructor, while we supply the location and registration support. On the other hand, some classes are directly supervised by our own staff to ensure a consistent and high-quality experience. Together, these offerings give participants a wide variety of engaging and expertly led opportunities to learn and grow.
