How to Play Disc Golf

Disc golf is a fun, fast-growing sport that’s easy to learn and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re playing solo or with friends, here’s how to get started.

Gather Your Gear

Before you head to the course, make sure you have the basics. Disc golf discs are specifically designed for different types of throws: Driver (long-distance), Mid-range disc (control and approach), and Putter (short, accurate).

Although having a set of discs may make you a more competitive player, you don’t need specialized equipment to have fun. You can enjoy yourself at our disc golf course with a regular frisbee. Additionally, bring water, comfortable shoes, and a scorecard or app to track your game.

Visit our Disc Golf Course

Our disc golf course is set next to Pleasant Ridge Middle school and features 18 holes.

Each hole includes:

  • A tee pad (where you start)
  • A fairway (the main path to the basket)
  • A basket (the target)

Then, Tee Off

To start, stand on the tee pad and throw your disc toward the basket. Just like in traditional golf, your goal is to complete the hole in the fewest number of throws.

Continue Throwing Until You Finish the Hole

First, at the beginning of each hole, the player with the lowest number of strokes on the previous hole tees off first. This rewards strong performance and helps maintain the flow of the game.

Next, once all players have thrown from the tee, the order of play changes. From that point on, the player whose disc is furthest from the basket takes the next throw, followed by the next furthest, and so on.

Practice Good Course Etiquette

Good sportsmanship makes the game enjoyable for everyone. Be sure to:

  • Let faster groups play through
  • Keep noise to a minimum
  • Respect the natural surroundings and wildlife
  • Pack out any trash or belongings

Tally Up Your Score

Each throw counts as one point. After finishing all holes on the course, add up your total number of throws. The player with the lowest score wins the round!
