Blue Valley Recreation Commission dance instructor Marilynn Luttrell and marketing supervisor Dawn Harmon recently earned accolades from the Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA). The Association presented Luttrell with the Distinguished Service Award for her contribution to Blue Valley Rec’s dance program and honored Harmon as the Distinguished New Professional for her accomplishments in leading the Commission’s marketing last week at its annual conference.
Luttrell, affectionately known as Ms. Marilynn, created Blue Valley Rec’s dance curriculum in 1996 as an age-specific development program. Under her guidance, the program experienced a 400% growth and now serves more than 1,000 families each year. Miss Marilyn shares her vision of excellence with four part-time instructors and provides the necessary training to ensure the program’s quality.
“Ms. Marilynn elevated Blue Valley Rec’s dance program to new heights and transformed dance into a signature element of the Commission’s core programming,” said Executive Director Steve Baysinger. “She has nurtured thousands and thousands of dancers the old fashioned way – one satisfied customer at a time.”
Harmon is in her fourth year with Blue Valley Rec and has aligned Commission marketing tactics with the emerging social media platform. Since her arrival, a new Website better spotlights the brand and Blue Valley Rec’s social media strategy has been formulated.
“Dawn has done outstanding work for the Commission. She hit the ground running when she joined staff and spearheaded one of the fastest changing aspects of our business, marketing,” noted Baysinger. “She led the Commission’s 25th Anniversary celebration and continues to implement innovations enhancing the Commission’s communications and brand.”
