Blue Valley Recreation aquatics supervisor Darla Letts and program supervisor Joann Miller recently earned honors from the Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA). Members of the Association recognized the pair for outstanding contributions and achievements in their respective areas. Letts won the Distinguished Aquatics Professional Award and Miller earned the Distinguished Recreation Programmer Award.

Letts has served in an aquatics leadership role in the state of Kansas for 16 years. She is active in KRPA and serves on state and regional committees devoted to improving safety and the overall aquatics experiences of Kansans. Letts excels in developing innovative programs and aqua fitness offerings for Blue Valley Rec.

“Darla’s expertise and dedication positively impacts our aquatics programs and through her leadership and networking, she has made a significant impact on aquatics throughout our state,” said Steve Baysinger, Blue Valley Recreation’s executive director.
Miller has been on staff 19 years and oversees recreational programming. She has proven to be an innovative programmer with an organized attention to detail. Joann has served as the architect for many of Blue Valley Rec’s signature events like Daddy-Daughter Date NightTouch-A-TruckMom & Son Prom, and Safety City. Joann continues to be a role model and mentor to many students finishing their undergraduate studies and just entering the field of parks and recreation.
“Joann is a high energy and prefers the behind the scenes, role,” commented Baysinger. “One of the factors that make this award so significant to Joann is the admiration and respect she has for others in the parks and recreation field and the difference they make in their communities.”
