The Blue Valley School District Board of Education recently appointed Kathy Woodward as a new commissioner to the Blue Valley Recreation Commission. Woodward’s four-year stint begins with the Commission meeting on August. 15.
Woodward has more than 23 years of experience and success in the Commercial Real Estate Industry and is active in the community. As a professional with DDI Commercial, Inc., she is a KCRAR Realtor of the Year award winner and holds many local and national awards including selection to 40 under 40 by Ingram’s Magazine. Her community involvement includes a seat on the Children’s Mercy Board of Advocates, membership on the Johnson County Advisory Board for MOCSA, involvement with the Chairman’s Club of the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce, and a spot on the Jewel Ball Advisory Board.
“The Blue Valley Recreation Commission is fortunate to have Kathy involved,” said current Commission Chair Cindy McAlister. “Her extensive volunteer involvement and love of the community fits well with Blue Valley Rec’s vision.”
The appointment of Woodward fills the vacated seat of Kim Galbraith, who served on the Commission for the last eight years. During Galbraith’s terms, she made a positive impact in the community and was instrumental in many of Blue Valley Rec’s key milestones including both the 20th and 25th Anniversaries, the construction of the natatorium, and the renovation of the North Fields.
“Blue Valley Rec has done so much for my family,” said Woodward. “I am excited for the opportunity to return the favor and help the commission grow even more.”
Volunteer commissioners have a passion for enriching the lives of local residents through recreational activities and lifetime sports. The seven-member Board serves as a policy-setting board for the organization and meets monthly. Each commissioner serves on a committee comprised of staff and patron liaisons from the community. Woodward will serve on the Community Relations Committee and as an alternate for the Softball Advisory Council.
Woodward joins Cindy McAlister, Lou Wade, Colleen Browne, Don Stebbins, Rufus Nye, and Brendan O’Grady on the Commission.
