Kim Galbraith’s term as a Blue Valley Rec Commissioner ended in July, but that doesn’t mean she’s done with parks and recreation. Galbraith starts the next chapter of her servant leadership in January when she joins our state agency – Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) – as the new chair of its Citizen Board.
After eight years on the Blue Valley Recreation Commission Board of Commissioners, Kim Galbraith is not quite through with volunteering. She recently was selected as the chair of the Citizen Board Committee of the Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) Board. The 23-member KRPA Board of Directors provides leadership and governs the state association, which supports local park and recreation agencies and state parks throughout the state.
“The parks and recreation field is very close to my heart as my grandmother worked in the profession while I was growing up in Iowa,” said Galbraith. “We benefitted greatly from the industry and my kids have as well. This is how I can give that same gift to others.”
Galbraith was instrumental in many of Blue Valley Rec’s milestones. She served as a commissioner of the Blue Valley Rec Commission from 2004 to 2012 and served as chair for two years. She witnessed both the 20th and 25th Anniversaries along with the building of the natatorium and North Fields additions.
“Kim is a great champion for parks and recreation,” said Blue Valley Rec executive director Steve Baysinger. “She understands how the industry enriches lives and the positive impact parks and rec have on individuals.”
Kim will officially be sworn into office Jan. 30 during ceremonies at the KRPA Conference and Trade Show in Manhattan. She replaces Bob Johnson, also of Blue Valley, who is stepping down after serving as the KRPA Citizen Board chair since 2007.
“The KRPA board is looking forward to having Kim in this important role,” said Doug Vance, KRPA executive director. “As a dynamic and forward-thinker, she will bring a great perspective and understanding of leadership to our board.”
Galbraith joins staff member Steve Herrig on the board. Herrig serves as the as Professional Development Committee chair on the KRPA Board of Directors.
