Representing the northeast district

Lewis joins commission board

November 1, 2018

Mike Lewis was recently appointed by the Blue Valley School District Board of Education as a new commissioner representing the northeast district with the Blue Valley Recreation Commission. Lewis’s four-year term began with the August Commission meeting.

Lewis has lived in the Blue Valley area for the last nine years and he is committed to be an integral part of the community. A vice president at Fidelity Investments by day, Lewis spends his evenings and weekends as a youth sports coach. With two kids in the family, he’s been active the last eight years coaching basketball, t-ball, and softball in Blue Valley Rec leagues along with youth soccer for Sporting Blue Valley.

“Mike’s passion for volunteering and his love for the community fits well with Blue Valley Rec’s vision,” said Commission chair Doug Seaberg. “The Commission is fortunate to have Mike as part of the team and we look forward to working closely with him.”

A graduate of Carleton College (Minn.), Lewis was a member of the varsity football and varsity track teams. He received his Financial Planning Certification from Boston University (Mass.). Most of Lewis’s spare time is spent coaching, but he likes to hit the golf course when his schedule allows. He also volunteers regularly at his church and various other community organizations.

Volunteer commissioners have a passion for enriching the lives of residents through recreational activities and sports. The seven-member Board serves as a policy-setting board for the organization and meets monthly. Each commissioner serves on a committee comprised of staff and citizen members from the community. Lewis will serve on the Community Relations, Facilities, & Programming Committee and as a liaison to the Basketball Advisory Council.
